TEAMBUILDING – CREATING A CULTURE THAT THRIVES.

It doesn’t take a tragedy (or a global pandemic) to change or improve the culture in your workplace. It simply takes a commitment, a plan, and courage–then repetition and consistency to get results. It means ownership and management are willing to get input from everyone–(Wait, what?! Yep, everyone.) This will allow all voices to be heard. Once leadership evaluates that input and a course of action is determined, trust will increase over time as you move forward on the implementation. Teams don’t reach their potential overnight, and culture doesn’t change overnight. But it never changes if we just keep doing what we’ve always done. It takes action. We must walk the talk. Then as each milestone is reached in the plan, reevaluate, then adjust. It’s simply Deming’s Plan-Do-Check-Act (or Adjust). If you want a Team that is efficient and effective and a Culture that thrives, being committed, consistent–and flexible–is the key!

EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION – SEEK FIRST TO UNDERSTAND.

The most effective communications training starts with “be authentic and truly care”. Good communication is critical, but only if it’s real. (If you haven’t discovered yet, people can see through BS a mile away!) Also recognize how we talk to people–from the tone and words we use, to the environment we chose, to the feedback we give–can affect productivity and morale. Effective communication skills are about aligning your core values and mission then ensuring employees are clearly getting the message you intended to send. It takes into account the environment, the message itself, the channel, all possible obstacles (age, gender, experience, different points of reference, etc), listening skills and of course the people involved. Learning how to communicate more effectively can inspire your team and gain loyalty from your employees.

GENERATIONAL DIVERSITY – YOUR FUN (and COMPLEX) COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE.

Every new generation seeks to make adjustments for the decisions or traits the previous generation has gotten wrong. And every older generation thinks the youngest generations are going to destroy life as we know it! In reality, we all grow up in a different world–one that is based on the behaviors, attitudes and beliefs that surround a common place in time. What makes generational diversity so interesting is that whether your a Baby Boomer, Gen Xer, Millennial or from Generation Z often the desire is, “Why don’t they act more reasonable, like ME?!” This fun and impactful topic looks at how every organization can start winning the war for attracting and keeping qualified people if they just take the time to learn the keys to each generation! I often say “We’re all more alike than we are different.” Sometimes we just have to point out where!

LEADERSHIP SKILLS / EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE – SEEING VALUE THRU CONNECTION

John Maxwell is fond of saying, “People don’t care how much you know, until they know how much you care.” It’s true. In our ever-technology-dependent world, making a REAL connection is more valuable then ever before to attract, retain the best & brightest employees and allow your team to reach their absolute potential! If you want to create value in your organization, start by evaluating your policies and business practices. Look at how people interact with each other. When people can point to evidence showing that the organization’s leadership truly cares about their needs, you will gain loyalty. Connecting with empathy–whether through problem-solving or celebration–will allow productivity to soar!

UNCONSCIOUS BIAS – BECOMING AWARE OF WHAT YOU DON’T REALIZE.

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Accessibility (DEIA) may seem to be ‘buzzwords’, but they have a very real meaning for all of us. Workplaces which place an emphasis on holding these values high are ones where all voices are heard and recognized for equal value. But we can’t change what we aren’t aware of. One of the Maxwell Leadership laws states, “You have to know yourself to grow yourself”. Unconscious Bias means becoming more aware of blind spots (we all have them) that affect our attitudes and beliefs as well as our actions and decisions. Then armed with that knowledge, identifying ways to improve.

CHANGE MANAGEMENT – FEEL THE FEAR AND DO IT ANYWAY.

Change can be a scary feeling. Learning new things can be daunting as well. People generally don’t like to be stretched beyond their comfort zone.  Why? Because that’s where we’re most comfortable, it takes effort…and to be perfectly honest, few of us like the great unknown. BUT change has very concrete stages, and as history has shown us time and time again, being pushed beyond our comfort limit is often the catalyst for great impacts and lasting change!

All training paths lead to creating a more open, inclusive CULTURE where employees are valued for what they bring to the table and organizations excel because of it! So what is the culture of your company? Do you have team buy-in? Do you have big turnover? Do people feel heard and valued? Has your workforce reached its potential and has the company benefitted as a result?

…LET’S DEVELOP A PLAN TO MAKE YOUR TEAM MORE EFFECTIVE!

For nearly 20 years, I’ve worked as a consultant. What I’ve often heard were employers who say they want the best for their company–who say their employees are their greatest asset–but who often fell short on actions and follow thru. Not because they’re bad leaders but because their plates were already full trying to run the business.

Don’t let this be you.
